DANIEL AVANO

Daniel completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in zoology and physiology, at Monash University in 1984. He followed this study with a Diploma in Secondary Education at the Institute of Catholic Education, with method subjects science, mathematics and religion. Daniel has ten years’ teaching experience in secondary schools, which has include teaching years 7 to 10 science, VCE biology and years 7 to 12 mathematics.

Daniel’s interest in extension education has led him to work as an Education Officer for
organisations such as the Melbourne Museum, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Gould League of Victoria, CSIRO Education and the Melbourne Aquarium.

His work within extension  education over the last few years has included writing and presenting education programs to thousands of students from prep to year 12, as well as to teachers and members of the public. 

Daniel has also been involved in a number of projects in the area of education including:

  • author of the interactive CD-ROM for Nelson Biology VCE units 1, 2, 3 and 4
  • co-author for the Curriculum Corporation’s PRISM project interactive website for year 7 and 8 science students (biological science strand)
  • co-writer of the 1999 unit 2 VCE science exam (examination setting panel)
  • co-author of the Gould League’s Poster Book (environmental learning outcomes) for primary and junior secondary schools.
