CAROL ANGLAND

Carol Angland, BSc (Monash), DipEd (Monash), has taught science, chemistry, physics and mathematics across all school systems for some 30 years. Carol is currently in her 19th year at Caulfield Grammar School where she is Head of Science years 10–12.

Teaching was always her intended career. She says that maybe it is a genetic thing, since she represents the third generation of teachers in her family and her own daughters have since followed the family tradition. Carol has a strong interest in developing curriculum and teaching materials and is a member of the Heads of Science in Independent Schools network.

One of Carol’s most exciting teaching experiences was to accompany 45 year 9 students on a five-week residential experience in China. The teaching and learning that occurred was breathtaking. When she decided to collect some water from a river in her empty water bottle to take back to base for testing, the Chinese were horrified and frantically signalled that she must not drink the water. Even with no common language the message was clear, which is more than could be said for the water!
